This taping of Clancy’s talk seems to really focus on the nuts-and-bolts fundamentals of AA;in light of AA’s history and experience,he explains WHY certain guidelines exist and the implications of altering them(eg.,changing the literature, public breaks of anonymity, etc)
Avid students of AA’s history, and ardent newcomers would appreciate it. Clancy, himself, was a fixture in AA’s history.(He’s a bit of an…um, “bleeding deacon”….but when he starts to puff off he’s pretty adroit at pricking his own balloon!)
He was a dick when i saw him. He was a speaker at a convention i went to. I was sitting near the back and decided i felt like a coffee. When I stood up he said from the podium “How dare you get up when I’m speaking” I just paused and glared at him and went and got my coffee. I fully regret not telling him to keep coming back.
Agreed. I’m not a fan of that kind of sobriety. They all sound alike, whether it’s Russell S., Ray O’keefe, etc. “I’m at the top, I know the truth. I’m going to point out the different types of people in AA, say something funny, then quote the book.” Ask the families of some of these guys how they are as fathers, sons, brothers, and husbands. For the guys I knew over the years, you wouldn’t get a nice answer.
Bit rude to get up and get coffee when someone’s speaking, I wouldn’t have done it because I wouldn’t like someone doing it if I was speaking
