I have not heard a better description of alcoholism, the suffering and the alcoholic anywhere. Thanks Gene!! You are sorely missed!!
Circle with the rest…I had tried my way and failed (I got drunk, we get sober). This cat’s wisdom helped from beyond. His inflection and delivery are surgical.” It’s a bitch,” really is the most profound manner in which to refer to the hideousness. Look out after us Gene. Thanks Lord, your servant, Z
Gene Duffy knew more about alcoholism than anyone I had ever met while still out there. I recall the first “lecture” by Duffy where he said “we don’t have any issues here and we don’t want to know about any of yours. You drank ‘cuz you’re a drunk. Only 2 people in this room will get sober and the rest of you will die drunk or in jail.” He made me believe that and I wanted to be one of the two. That was March 13, 1990 and after many stints in jail, regrading human experiences, fights, you name it, it had me licked and somehow I made it. Don’t give up. My life is beautiful today with the steps and the grace of God.
