I’m not promoting Governor Chris Christy’s presidential campaign, but his speech here on addiction is the most thoughtful treatise I’ve ever heard a politician give on the subject:

Sure! My thinking is to come up with a more general “topic-oriented” title – the above title is engaging, but I probably wouldn’t use it more than once. Am thinking there is a better “subject” that this falls under, but I can’t come up with one yet.
Bottom line – tapes tagged or titled under this type of theme I think is helpful…
Nicely done Mary, that’s one of the more interesting tape titles on here, my guess is it will draw a lot of listeners over time…
Well, it applies to this tape but there are several others that it applies to even more. Can a few tapes have the same title, with a different speaker name?
Admin,
I’ve been thinking about how to word a possible tag. But I’m having a hard time deciding number one, if it’s an appropriate or helpful tag and if so, how to word it. The theme/tag idea I’m wondering about is: outward professional success or something like that? Does that make sense. Bc for many, particularly those that are new, having a significant amount of education and professional success can be a stumbling block to accepting they have a problem. Additionally, those same people may find it helpful to listen to speakers that also had degrees, professional success etc, bc they are able to relate to them better& understand the facade of success when inside one is dying. I know this was the case for me, even though now many of my favorite speakers would not have this tag applied! Anyway, if you think it’s a good idea, great, if not, that’s great too. No big deal. Thank you for all your service!!
Ahhh… yes, i see distinction you’re trying to make – it’s a good topic/theme (for me especially, who is still driven by ego’s need for achievement so that it can bless me and “being worthy and sufficient”). A tag that captures that escapes me for this moment… I want to say something like, reliance on outside circumstances, career/professional achievement, outside sources of esteem, etc – none of those capture the essence yet. “facade of professional success”?
Yes! I would chose either the career/professional achievement or the facade of professional success, as a new tag. I think it would be really helpful for both those that have some denial in place due to their own success. And also, for those that haven’t had that & may look at well educated, successful individuals in AA as “having it all” etc. Bc the truth is, that education/professional success doesn’t bring any greater happiness or fulfillment, particularly while still using. In fact, those with that success are often more miserable, in my experience at least, bc more is expected of them by themselves & others & the greater the ego, the harder it is to admit there’s a problem & ask for help. Again, just all my opinion but a thought! Thanks!!
Recorded in 1970 at a large conference, the first 18-19 mins are introductions, reading how it works etc. Judge Dick H., who got sober in 1952, focuses most of his talk on sobriety. Very good speaker. Possible tags could also include: concerns with higher power/ God, ego, how it works, design for living
