First we want to explain the answers to some of the questions that often come to mind like
Who were Joe and Charlie?
Where did they get it?
What did they do?
In the beginning, there were two old drunks with a desire to stop drinking, this is Joe and Charlie and out of which came a program called Alcoholics Anonymous and a book commonly known as just “The Big Book” The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous is a 164-page instruction manual on how to get and stay sober written and edited by Bill Wilson. Joe & Charlie P. met in 1973, soon they were planning meetings in hotel rooms at AA conventions in Oklahoma and Arkansas, and within a few years, the meetings grew in popularity. In 1977, some members met in a Tulsa, OK hotel room for a discussion of the Big Book. One asked Joe & Charlie to come to his home group to present a program on the book.
Joe & Charlie were presenting about 36 studies a year worldwide. Obviously, the seminars struck a deep chord within AA members … for the reaffirmation of this message as written in April 1939 with the publication of the first edition of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Although Joe and Charlie are no longer with us but their talks continue to inform and inspire AA members. We are thankful for what these man have done for us personally and for what they have done for the program of Alcoholics anonymous.
