Been reading and daily going through Wayne’s suggested way of living the 12 steps – He was very clear that if I were using Psychotic meds. that I need to go to the Dr. But that talk therapy … Read the material !!!

Hi, I am a member of AA in Perth WA. I would like to draw your attention to a group in Northbridge WA who follow Wayne B. They tell newcomers that they will not have a spiritual awakening unless they are off ALL their medication. They are not doctors and hence we have had two members die recently who have come off their psychosis medication on their advice. Our most recent was a 24 year old, Andrew, who has left behind two young children. He committed suicide from his psychosis when told to come off his meds. Last year we had a female who wanted to fit in with the Northbridge group and again advised to come of her psychosis meds. She even drove dangerously in that condition and ended up back in a mental institution. None of those members were there to support her when she went through this. Instead it is left up to the other groups to clean up their mess. Wayne B came over recently to a Convention in Perth, all paid for by the fundraising from the group. Against AA traditions ………. our head office desperately needs funds to keep going.
So I guess they are getting newcomers sober through DEATH!!
I hope my concerns are taken seriously as we have tried to shield our newcomers and still nothing is being done about this deadly conduct. This is not the AA way.
Excellent comment Ursula, I agree with your assessment. The idea that you can’t have a spiritual awakening while being on doctor’s prescribed meds sounds preposterous to me. For example, a person with bipolar disorder can drop into a massive bipolar depression which is a setup for suicidal ideation and even worse, acting out on it. I say this from personal experience.
