Fun thing about Columbus… they already knew the world was round. What was /not/ known whether or not it’s possible to establish a faster and shorter trade route.
As much as I agree with us having the same intellect now as we did then, and agree that tradition-based thinking held us back, but that’s not why they didn’t have television and computers a few hundred years ago. It’s because we’ve all been building on past knowledge. It’s just like technology… we’re constantly building on the work of brilliant minds that came before us.
What I like about this adjustment is it emphasizes how important the community is to recovery… because we’re continuing to build on each other. This is exactly why there are more “high-bottom” alcoholics coming to AA. We’re able to stop earlier and earlier because we can see ourselves in the increasingly higher-bottom alcoholics and recognizing our powerlessness earlier and earlier … even if that means having a harder and harder time being able to admit it.
